Description
In March 2023, the Federal Government announced the start of the menstrual dignity programme (program dignidade menstrual) to implement the law on menstrual health (law number 14.214/2021). The program ensures the free and continuous distribution of sanitary napkins to about 24 million people between 10 and 49 years old who are students, homeless or incarcerated women, or from low-income households, through accredited pharmacies throughout Brazil. In addition, the program includes training and education for the public and through public officials. The budget allocated is BRL 418 million. Menstrual Hygiene Scheme

Description
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MHFW) has been implementing the "Scheme for Promotion of Menstrual Hygiene" among adolescent girls since 2011. Since 2014 it has fallen under the comprehensive adolescent health programme (Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram), and the implementation is being supported by the National Health Mission on the State level. The objectives of the scheme are to increase awareness and education, provide access to sanitary pads, and ensure the safe disposal of sanitary pads. The total available budget since 2018 is INR 3.593 billion. [Note: USD figure is based on conversion rate of 11/03/2024]
